The USSD-Based Surplus Food Distribution System, an innovative solution designed to combat food waste and improve food accessibility which connects surplus food providers with individuals in need through the use of Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) and Africa’s Talking API.

The implemented solution requires a wireless LAN (without internet) set up with a WIFI router, where a Spring Boot server and a mock Tap2Eat app demonstrate wristband taps sending HTTP requests to verify if a student has claimed a meal, with an alternative Bluetooth mesh concept proposed for future implementation to reduce hardware costs and power consumption.
